Ok, so that’s a pretty big claim. But seriously, this popcorn is super amazing and healthy too! Healthy? Good tasting? No way!!!
How can this be? Doesn’t microwave movie theater butter popcorn taste way better? Mustn’t popcorn be loaded with toxic chemicals and artificial colors and sweeteners to actually taste good?
No! No! No! A resounding NO!!!
This super snack is made with just three simple and wholesome ingredients.
But, there is one magic technique, and one sort of atypical ingredient that changes EVERYTHING.
Can you guess what that ingredient is?
Well, the magic ingredient is AVOCADO OIL.
Why? Because avocado oil is healthier than other vegetable oils. Furthermore, avocado oil imparts a delicate, buttery taste that has no equal. While olive oil is another healthy option, in my opinion, olive oil popcorn has a very odd taste.
And, avocado oil also has a very high smoking point, around 450 degrees. In case you don’t know, the smoking point is the temperature at which the oil will start to burn. Have you ever cooked popcorn in vegetable oil and burned it? It smells just terrible. You are less likely to burn your popcorn if you use avocado oil.
The next secret to making perfect homemade popcorn is to apply finely ground sea salt liberally. The other day I even used Himalayan pink salt, so fancy!
Sadly, it did NOT turn my popcorn pink, but I digress…
The next trick to the creating this amazingly salty, buttery snack to use finely ground sea salt. I achieve this by pulverizing the salt until it becomes a fine dust. Trust me. This is the trick that transforms your popcorn from blah to “Oh my goodness I can’t believe I just ate 6 bowls.”
And, there is a simple process to making perfect homemade popcorn that I’ve never seen done before.
Before you cook your popcorn, add the kernels, oil, and sea salt dust to a pot fitted with a reasonably tight lid. STIR the three ingredients together FIRST, and THEN turn up the heat!
This step ensures that every kernel is enveloped in a salty, buttery coating. This also guarantees that the salt will stick to the popcorn instead of being left behind in the bottom of the pot!
Now, my daughters bring their bags of popcorn to school, and everyone wants to share. Today, I made extra big bags for the girls to take to school. Thankfully, perfect homemade popcorn is a budget friendly snack!
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix the oil, salt dust and popcorn kernels. Place the cover on pot and be sure to wear a pot holder glove!
Set your flame to medium heat. As you hear the oil begin to sizzle, begin gently shaking the pot using the handle on top of the lid until the popping almost ceases. When it takes a second or two between pops, its time to turn the heat off!

Best Popcorn Ever
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup of non-GMO popcorn kernels
- 2 tablespoons of avocado oil
- 2 teaspoons (or to taste) of the sea salt of your choice
Directions
- First, grind 2 or 3 teaspoons of sea salt (or any other coarse ground salt) in a coffee grinder until it becomes a fine powder.
- Next, add 1/2 cup of the kernels, 2 tablespoons of oil and the sea salt dust to a large pot fitted with a tight fitting lid. Stir the ingredients together until all of the salt is dissolved and all of the kernels are coated with the avocado oil.
- Place the lid on the pot, and cook over a medium flame. Using the handle on the top of the lid, gently move the pot back and forth as the popcorn pops. When the popping becomes less vigorous and it takes a few seconds between single pops, the popcorn is done. Promptly remove the pot from the heat source.
***Make sure you wear a pot holder glove when shaking the pot on the stove!!!
